Human history consists of brown wrapping paper. Bars of 2 x 20 cm have
been painted on it to represent 100 years of time. Bar follows bar,
marked with numbers. Time begins at 20 cm before zero. Then nothing
happens. The centuries pass in silence. Something must have happened at
180 cm: above and below the axis of time, little pictures have been
glued onto the paper; drawings of agricultural tools and pictures of
bread and corn. Four centuries on, craters pepper the surface as though
pounded by a meteorite shower, causing the cheap paper to rip, then
nothing again as time passes. Until we come to a final scrawl: NOW. A
film from Berlin. 1999 to 2005. These are children that have just come
of age. Vulnerable. Sven, Lena, Thomas, Stephan and Daniela. This is
about their lives. The closeness is as intense as the loneliness. We see
everything. There are no interviews. There are processes, images, texts,
letters, theatre, requests, administrative acts, looks, oaths, pleas.
And a letter to me. |
