Ten years after her sudden death and thirty years after they first met, filmmaker Hannes Schönemann reconstructs that time of the Cold War. He pieces together the puzzle of their lives, and in so doing reminds us of a time many are trying to forget.
The film Julia's Madness, Hannes Schönemann's most personal film to date, is a document of everyday European life during the Cold War. It is a film which rails against forgetting, and which embraces the tender memories of someone who was destroyed and who destroyed herself in her search for a home.
